
Sarah Goodes is an Award-winning Australian theatre director recognized for bringing over 17 new Australian works to the mainstage. Sarah directed the acclaimed sell out production of JULIA staring Justine Clarke for Sydney Theatre Company in 2023 which has then toured to Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide with a return season to the Sydney Opera House in 2024 and will continue to tour in 2025. Her production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, staring Kat Stewart, sold out at Red Stitch Theatre, transferred to The Comedy Theatre in 2024 and is a part of Sydney Theatre Companies 2025 season.
In 2025 she will direct the world premiere of Joanna Murray Smiths adaptation of The Talent Mr Ripley at the Sydney Theatre Company staring Will McDonald.
For Melbourne Theatre Company, Sarah’s work includes the sellout productions of Sunday at Melbourne Theatre Company which then toured to the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Theatre Companies 2024 season.
Sarah was awarded a Helpmann Award for Best Director on The Children in 2018 where the production won 3 awards for Best Direction, Best Production, Best Actor.
Sarah was the Associate Artistic Director at Melbourne Theatre Company for 5 years her productions included the original production of Virginia Gay’s Cyrano, The Sound Inside, Home, I’m Darling, Cosi, Golden Shield, Arbus & West, Astroman, A Doll’s House: Part 2, The Children (with Sydney Theatre Company), Three Little Words and John.
As a Resident Director at Sydney Theatre Company for 4 years where she directed The Hanging, Disgraced, Orlando, Battle of Waterloo, Switzerland, The Effect, Vere (Faith), The Splinter and Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness. Sarah’s other directing credits include Grace (Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre); The Weekend and The Sugar House (Belvoir).
Sarah did her Post Graduate in Theatre Directing at VCA and undergraduate at UNSW and University California San Diego. She is currently enrolled in Masters of Screen Business at ATFRS looking to translate theatre to film and develop new Tv and Film projects with Australia’s best actors and writers.
in 2025 Sarah Goodes and actor/ producer Diana Glenn started Jacaranda Productions, a company that focuses on developing multi medium stories. Jacaranda develops work that starts in theatre and develops into Tv , film and online productions and vice versa. Jacaranda is passionate about exploring new technologies that put the artist at the centre of the creative act and work that creates opportunities for women to be leaders in this area.
Sarah instigated the production of Big Name No Blanket – the story of the Warumpi Band with the bands family and helped steer it over 6 years with the Ilbijerri Theatre company to its premier production as part of the 2024 Sydney Festival.
